Marc and I met in May of 2015. I think it was around September of 2015 that we decided where our honeymoon would be. Nope, we weren’t engaged yet. We hadn’t discussed an actual wedding, and we were still a couple of months away from moving in together.
But that honeymoon? Oh, we knew.
It began with a conversation about all of the places we were hoping to one day visit. Before we could even think about it both of us blurted out, the Maldives! Somehow neither of us had ever been and yet both of us dreamed of one day changing that.
I say “somehow” because of Marc. For nearly a decade he worked in the Caribbean as a yacht captain and dive instructor. And for even longer than that diving was a huge part of his life. He has been to some of the most beautiful and exotic tropical locations in the world on dive trips. So, to find one of those places that he has never been was a pretty big deal.
As for me, I had always seen photos of a villa on stilts over crystal clear blue and aqua water and I was sold.
Now we are finally less than two weeks from our vacation dream becoming a reality! I can not wait. It’s going to be magical.
I keep pinching myself that this is actually happening. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to take a trip like this. We didn’t register for gifts for our wedding, instead having a honeymoon fund for anyone who wanted to give us something. So, our family and friends played a huge role in making this all possible.
Of course, with the honeymoon almost here that means packing for said honeymoon. And that means shopping for said packing for said honeymoon.
Fortunately, this is peak Resort Wear time for brands and stores, so warm weather clothes, accessories, and, of course, swimsuits are everywhere. I know I’m not the only person heading somewhere warm in the next couple months, so these are my picks for a winter getaway.
When it comes to swimwear, I am really into mixing up a cute bikini like this top and bottom one day, with a one-piece like this and this another day. I’ll be bringing along these under $20 sunglasses that look so much more expensive, and I finally bought this Staud bag that will work great on the beach and in town. I’m loving this one-shoulder coverup, and this shirt dress works as a coverup or on its own. And I think it’s always important to pack flats as well as a cute pair of wedges or block heels for dinners out. It’s also super important to take care of your skin in the sun, so all of these sunscreen products are necessities, and a good hat will also keep your face protected.
See you on the beach! And even if you aren’t going anywhere this winter, it’s still nice to look at things like swimsuits and sandals. It’s a reminder that summer has to return at some point!
